Hi!
Okay, I know the weeknights this week are *packed* with activity already, but I wanted to share one more event with you for this Thursday night.
Obviously, (openbar) there’s no pressure to attend (openbar) but it should be a great time (openbar) and kick off a new resource for entrepreneurs.

Start your Thursday at the TIC for The Hatching: A grand opening and tour of The Hatch.

The Hatch, in partnership with msuENet, Michigan State University’s Entrepreneurial Network, is designed to host, encourage, cultivate and enable student entrepreneurs to grow their ideas through a creative, co-working environment. Hatch members share common workspaces, creating a collaborative environment where they can connect, brainstorm and exchange skills and ideas to increase the probability of each venture’s success.

On Thursday, March 31, at 5:00 p.m., The Hatching will open the doors of the long-awaited Hatch, located in the Technology Innovation Center on 325 E. Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. Held by the Michigan Technology Network (MITN), the ceremony will be kicked off by East Lansing Mayor Vic Loomis, and will feature an open bar, locally-made hors d’oeuvres, live music, prize giveaways and showcase of current businesses in the TIC.

Please RSVP to this free event via Eventbrite: http://bit.ly/ELhatching.

Thanks much, hope to see you there!
Amber

msuENet is proud to unveil a complete entrepreneurship learning experience for both students and community members that culminates in a Certificate in Entrepreneurship. The Certificate starts with education and training at Michigan State University that provides entrepreneurs with understanding about the entrepreneurial mindset and venture creation, including planning and launching new projects. It then provides planning and mentoring and access to prototype and proof-of-concept funding from a generous endowment from the Gerstacker and Forest Akres Foundations. Finally, the certificate offers assistance to launch the new venture, including incubation space at the new Idea Hatch space in the East Lansing Technology Innovation Center. In sum, students at MSU can learn about how to create a new venture, get mentoring and financial help to get their idea started, use space for incubating their new idea, and move through the steps necessary to take their idea to commercial or non-profit status.

The figure below illustrates the path to the certificate.

No state offers more to creative, energetic entrepreneurs and dedicated businesspeople: great universities training the next generation of business leaders, a workforce recognized around the globe for its skills and work ethic and a business climate among the nation’s top ten. Add to this the great quality of life we enjoy and Michigan is a great place to live and play, raise a family and build a business.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) touches, assists and helps grow thousands of Michigan businesses each year. Whether it’s a new venture, an expansion, a relocation, or even a concern with another agency of state government, the MEDC can help. We supply customized economic development services to help companies and communities – both large and small – find success in a very competitive global economy.

As a public corporation created through an interlocal agreement between state and local governments, the MEDC is a liaison with local communities and agencies across the state. It is guided by a board comprised of members who represent a cross section of the state economy, business owners and executives, local economic developers and college presidents. A corporation, not a bureaucracy, our policies and procedures meet the needs of the private sector. The MEDC brings together supply and demand and matches up resources and services with the needs of our business customers.
