Spartan Startup Selected for 2026 Rice Business Plan Competition

By Jana Hassan, student writer

Startups from around the world have applied to compete in the prestigious Rice Business Plan Competition, presented by Rice University in Houston, Texas. Following a record-breaking application cycle, only 42 of the stop student-led ventures were selected to compete for more than $1 million in prizes from April 9-11.

BRCĒ will represent Michigan State University, as part of a cohort spanning 39 universities across four countries, chosen for their innovation, market potential, and investability.

BRCĒ is redefining what athletes expect from their shoelaces through its engineered, micro-interlocking designs built to stay secure under any condition. Using patented Lattice Grip® Technology, BRCĒ’s advanced polymer composite laces are designed to stay tied, resist fraying, and perform reliably across sports such as running, football, soccer, and basketball. Compatible with leading footwear brands, the laces distribute pressure evenly and absorb impact, allowing athletes to focus on performance rather than maintenance.

Now in its 26th year, the RBPC is widely recognized as the largest and richest student startup competition in the world. Participating in this competition provides student founders with unparalleled opportunities to pitch to investors, gain exposure, and accelerate their ventures through mentorship and funding.
