At the Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation, we guide students through every step of their entrepreneurial journey with our structured Venture Creation process.
Starting with the Discovery Program, teams explore and develop their business plans with access to financial, legal, and other valuable resources through the MSU Library, laying a strong foundation for success. Once their concept is ready to grow, teams advance to the Launch Program, where they develop, refine, and scale their ventures with the support of tailored resources, expert guidance, and access to funding opportunities. Students can also immerse in our highly competitive Momentum Pre-Accelerator program which provides deeper access to resources and one-on-one mentorship. Creators and makers can promote their products and services through our online and on campus marketplace, Student-Made Michigan State.

Venture Creation Program
The Venture Creation program is where Spartans build what’s next—with the space, structure, and support to grow ideas into something bigger. Since 2012, more than 3,000 Spartan entrepreneurs have ventured with the Burgess Institute, building 2,500+ startups and raising over $385M in funding.
Student-Made Michigan State
Student-Made Michigan State is an online and on-campus marketplace for student makers and creators to sell their products and services. The program includes a centralized online marketplace, six on-campus market locations, pop-up events and a nationwide network of creators.
Momentum Pre-Accelerator
The Momentum Pre-Accelerator program is a free 6 week immersive experience for Spartan entrepreneurs. The program provides students with seed funding, one-on-one and expert mentorship, as well as programming designed to set a path for student founders to participate in future accelerator programs and investment opportunities.
