There’s a little more room for Spartans to build what’s next with the Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation.
Entrepreneurship doesn’t happen in one classroom or one corner of campus. Students exploring ideas, building projects and starting ventures across MSU, and having spaces where they can work and collaborate is an important part of supporting that work.
This fall, the Institute is expanding its physical presence across campus with two new spaces for students to work, build and collaborate: The Station in Wells Hall and the Startup Studio in the MSU Union.
Together, the spaces give students more places across campus to work alongside other Spartans, develop ideas, collaborate on projects, and connect with the people and resources available through the Burgess Institute.
The Station

Located in Wells Hall, The Station is a student co-working space designed to be flexible around how students use it. Developed in partnership with Eat at State, MSU Culinary Services, and Student Made Michigan State, the space features a Sparty’s Express location alongside room to work, meet, and connect.
Its location makes it easy for students to stop in between classes. A quick study session, a team meeting or a place to settle in and get some work done, The Station gives Spartans a new place to plug into campus and MSU’s entrepreneurial community.
“The best part of The Station is that it can be whatever students need it to be,” said Paul Jaques, managing director of venture creation at the Burgess Institute. “It can be a place to work on a project, meet with your team, talk through an idea or connect with someone new. We wanted students to have a space they could make their own.”
Startup Studio
The Startup Studio gives students another place to develop ideas, ask questions, and work on their ventures, with direct access to the Burgess Institute team.
Located alongside the Institute’s offices in Suite 200 of the MSU Union, the Startup Studio offers co-working space where students can meet, collaborate, and connect directly with Institute staff.
The Startup Studio builds on the role The Hatch played for more than a decade, creating a dedicated home for student entrepreneurs to grow their ideas. As the Burgess Institute continues to expand its presence on campus, the Startup Studio will provide a space where students can spend time building and have the support of the Institute close by.
Not every Spartan engages with entrepreneurship in the same way, and there isn’t one place or program that fits every student. Some students are exploring an idea for the first time. Others are already building and need space, support or a new connection to keep moving.
The Station, Startup Studio, Entrepreneurship Lab, and Venture Kitchen each serve a distinct purpose giving Spartans more ways to engage with the Institute and find the space, resources, and community that fit what they are building.
Students can use both spaces during their respective building hours. The Station in Wells Hall is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Startup Studio in the MSU Union is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11p.m. Hours may change during university breaks and holidays.
